Three News Bites - Cats, Dogs and Elephants

  • Pudgy people and pudgy pets share one thing in common. Both are prone to becoming Diabetic. And Diabetes is a growing problem in both cats and dogs.

The increase, according to Vets, is related to the large quantity and poor quality of the diet and....lack of exercise.

Recommendation for Cats: Put tabby on a restricted diet and enforce a play time. A novel suggestion from one veterinarian: hide the food to force the cat to hunt...

Will it work...??Does it work when you are hungry and someone hides your food from you?

Recommendation for Dogs: Walks.

  • Dogs have a new best friend. Willie Nelson has stepped up to the plate to speak out against

Dog fighting in Georgia. PSA's should be airing soon.

  • The answer is Yes. The question? Can Elephants play Jingle Bells? Listen.

Saving Oil Coated Birds Deemed too Expensive?

Evolution of the richest -

Bottom line: It costs too much to save an oil coated bird...

That verdict is hard to swallow... But here it is... (not from me) an argument that saving bird lives is a waste of dollars given the cost of clean up versus - the likelihood they are just going to die anyway.

Wow. What does that say about us? Can't we work on improving our clean-up methods to make them more cost effective...and efficient? Does anyone at the top of the corporate food chain care about environmental fallout or will abandoned oil soaked birds and wildlife become another example of those deemed necessary losses by a throw away society?

*Volunteers who showed up to help with clean up on the recently soiled California beaches were sent home - they lacked credentials now required for anyone involved in a hazardous waste cleanup...

*Source: Live Science.com

There are no easy answers - but advocating a death sentence in order to protect the bottom line reveals a character with very little sense of accountability or stewardship, let alone compassion or value for the individual lives jacked up and/or lost as a result of the inadvertent derailment of someone else's bankroll.

Hail Dolphins! and Auto Pet Wash!

Great story about the surfer rescued by dolphins -- two intervened to provide a barrier between him and an attacking shark as he swam ashore. He lost a lot of blood and required some major patching up...but it would have been a lost cause without their assist.
