To see the shelter numbers go up in conjunction with the current economic crisis is heartbreaking. Pets often help us cope in difficult times. Clearly, the tributes and memorials show just how wonderful some of our pet connections can be.

Condolences to - The Florida man arrested for trying to go back into his burning home to save his pets. He couldn't. They died. - He faces a felony charge of obstructing the extinguishment of a fire and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest without violence.

Small miracles count. Especially to those on the receiving end. The driver who ran into a dog while doing 70 mph didn't stop. He did find the dog later -- stuck in the grill area -- alive. Docs fixed his broken leg and he's up for adoption.
